OVERHEARD IN LOUTH · RED SOCKS, BROWN BOOTS REPORTS…
High Drama Near Vickers Lane
18 September 2026
Dear reader,
There was high drama near Vickers Lane today, where a perfectly ordinary trip through town briefly transformed into an episode of Fast & Furious: Louth Drift.
A driver attempting to turn their car around came rather too close for comfort to an older gentleman on foot.
The gentleman, understandably unimpressed by his unexpected starring role in a live-action game of Frogger, immediately made his feelings known. The driver made theirs known too.
What followed was a spirited roadside exchange which appeared to increase in volume while decreasing considerably in diplomacy.
Our pedestrian eventually announced that the matter would be reported to the police, presumably bringing proceedings to a close before anyone demanded satisfaction at dawn.
Thankfully, nobody appeared to be hurt.
Red Socks, Brown Boots’ verdict:
Louth drivers remain a fascinating species. Give them four wheels and suddenly every pavement is negotiable, every double yellow line is merely a suggestion, and the phrase ‘YOU CAN’T PARK THERE, MATE!’ becomes less of a warning and more of our town motto.
Until next time, dear reader. Keep your eyes open, your wits about you, and when anywhere near Vickers Lane, perhaps look both ways. Then look again.
Red Socks, Brown Boots sees all.
